Fridays have become our day to run errands. The hope is that every weekend, Saturday and Sunday are spent free of any gas guzzling and money spending and the only reason we have to venture out is to drive somewhere to hike or go see family for dinner, both of which we did this weekend, by the way.
As for the Friday plan? This weekend, it was a success!
I have to say, though, that it meant that Friday was a whole lot of ridiculous, some of which was unplanned. I’m sure every Friday isn’t going to be so crazy, but this one was.
Cassie and I do our damnedest to head out with a list and stick to that list. It is very rare that we adhere to what was outlined, but we seriously try.
Friday was to go as follows:
- Sally Beauty Supply to exchange some hair products Cassie bought
- Peddler’s Mall to spend no more than $40 on project stuff
- Meijer to go grocery shopping
Friday actually went as follows:
- Watson’s to pick up last second remembered pool chlorine
- Sally Beauty Supply to exchange some hair products Cassie bought
- Keg Liquors to buy a bottle of beer
- Peddler’s Mall and spent $680 on project and home stuff
- Hancock Fabrics to buy just realized other project stuff
- Meijer to go grocery shopping
- Back to Peddler’s Mall to pick up what we purchased
To be completely fair, they were all necessary deviations. The chlorine isn’t on my radar til Monday nights when I have to shock and replace the tablets. I was fortunate enough to remember while we were running our errands that we were out of the tablets, so that went well for us. Especially considering it was right next to Sally’s.
The bottle of beer wasn’t necessary in a life or death sense. However, in an I only have another 40 years or so before I die and I have to try all of the beers ever sense, it was crucial that we stopped in and picked up something we’d never had. That something was Finch’s Beer Company’s Fascist Pig, because how do you ignore a beer with a name like that? It would be like turning your nose up at Arrogant Bastard. You just don’t do that.
Anyways, They’re based out of Chicago and this was the first beer we’d had of theirs. I was happy, Cassie wasn’t. This only meant I got to drink more beer, so I was even happier!
Speaking of happy, that extra $640 at Peddler’s? Well, Cassie will let you in on that little gem tomorrow. Let’s just say that on a scale of 1 – 10, 1 being an unbelievably unwise spending of money and 10 being you’d be stupid not to spend, this was a 9.5. Also of note, we had to go back to pick our purchase up because we drive a Honda Fit and the items were bigger than our car.
Intrigued? I bet you are!
The trip to Hancock’s is pretty self explanatory. Cassie realized something she needed last minute for her project, so we went. Mind you, we went to two different locations because we hadn’t realized the first was closed and for sale, but thanks to the wonders of smart phones, we quickly found where they’d moved to!
On the whole, going out, coming back and heading back out took us from 9:30 a.m. til 6 p.m., so our Friday was over. So much so that preparing dinner wasn’t even an option. Unboxing a frozen Kashi pizza and sticking it in the oven and washing it down with a Fascist Pig?
Obviously the better choice.
Saturday was certainly a busy day for us, but not in the same way. We’ve scheduled Saturdays as a day dedicated mostly to Back to Her Roots. Cassie head chefs and writes, I sous chef and clean. In between her needing my assistance, I work on my own projects.
All four dishes she whipped up on Saturday will certainly be over on her blog, so if you don’t read it regularly, you should start, because you’re seriously, honestly, 154.43% missing out on a whole bunch of amazing. Especially her creations from this weekend.
While she did her thing, I decided to redo our dining area.
I know. Random, right? I mean, we’d planned on doing it at some point, but I was like “Hey, how about I do it now?”
It’s how I roll.
I don’t want to spoil all of the fun right now, since the big reveal is on Wednesday, but I will tell you that I’m super happy with what I accomplished. It’s not 100% the way we want it, as the area rug and dining set no longer work in the space, but the rest of it? Totally us.
Totally B.A.
Watch out, now.
Also being revealed this week is the project Cassie was shopping for, which she started work on Saturday afternoon. I don’t know how much I can share with you, but the vision she has is pretty magical. Downright regal, if you ask me. Which you didn’t, so I apologize for being so forward. I don’t mean to. I just can’t help boasting about how super my wife is. Mind you, I could have just deleted everything I just said. I have that power. But guess what? Not exercising it.
NYAH.
Despite all of the eating we did of the delicious cooking, the DIY business made us hungry. Luckily we were invited over to Cassie’s brother and sister-in-law’s place in Jeffersonville for dinner! I unfortunately didn’t snap any pictures, but if you can imagine, there was some serious paper airplane making going on after dinner. Also, Volkswagen buses were a hot topic of conversation thanks to this gem of a magazine that was sitting on their coffee table. This magazine was also worth noting, especially since the word “gun” is in it’s title and there is very little, if at all, about guns in the thing.
A trip to Wal-Mart for one more project related capped the evening off before we headed home to meet with Mr. Sandman.
Saturday’s Back to Her Roots-a-thon meant that Sunday was Broken Plow’s turn.
Hey, that’s this blog!
As far as BP stuff goes, I didn’t have much of my own stuff to work on and all Cassie had was some more work on her project and writing a post, so we actually managed to get out for a hike Sunday morning! We’d been meaning to hike a bit of the Knobstone Trail for some time now but ever since the tornado hit in March, the section of it down by us has been closed. Well, we found out that morning that a few miles at the head of the trail was open, so we ventured out to find it and get some sweet, sweet cardio time in with the fluffy one.
Due to a second instance of being tick bombed and the likelihood that it was going to keep happening because of long grass on the trail, this attempt was unfortunately cut short. We got a good two mile hike in, though, so that’s something!
When we got back, we had the chance to get a little more cardio in and finally play with an Aerobie Pro Ring that we’ve had for a while, which not only spent some of our energy, but after we got it out of the tree I threw it in, the puppy seemed to enjoy chasing after it as well. So much so that she stole it from us at one point and brought it back toward the house, hinting that she wanted to go inside and sleep. We couldn’t deny her the most basic of puppy needs, could we?
While Cass worked on her project some more, I helped her on and off and during those off moments, I cleaned the house and unpacked some more boxes. Sunday was generally an uneventful day compared to the rest of the weekend, but uneventful means I can do stuff like unpack and clean!
Like my grandmother told me though, we own the place and plan to live here a while, so we have the time to slowly unpack.
Ain’t that the truth?
